Moondance?
FULLER MOONDANCE,Jazz Vocalist
BIO
Jazz-man, 28 year veteran, FULLER MOONDANCE began his jazz singing career in Harlem, NY under the name Lucious Conway in 1983 at the LaFamille Jazz Club where Lionel Hampton’s niece Paula Hampton, a drummer, backed him. It was there that Jazz organist and songstress, Lucille Amanda Calendar Exum Bailey noticed Fuller’s talent and expanded his repertoire of Jazz standards. Fuller began performing regularly at La Famille where patrons included the first African American’s with a seat on the NYSE: Bell & Brown, as well notable Black newspaper publishers, bankers, lawyers and power brokers like the late Percy Sutton.
FULLER continued to rise on the New York scene winning gigs at clubs in lower and mid-town Manhattan, including the Improv, New York, New York, Trixie’s, and the Duplex. Finally, back in Harlem he was one of the first re-opening acts at the historical Jazz hotspot, Well’s Chicken & Waffles, where he performed regularly for Ms. Wells, one of the original owners and served as maitre d’. Fuller also completed an Associates Degree in Broadcast and Video Communications from Ossie Davis’ Institute of New Cinema Artists.
After a family emergency necessitated FULLER’s return to his native Detroit in 1986, FULLER was immediately booked into the world famous jazz club Baker’s Keyboard Lounge where performed until he re-located to South Beach, Florida in 1994 and began performing at the exclusive Ocean Drive club the Lizard Lounge in addition to other upscale venues on the beach accompanied by his 8 piece Jazz ensemble. Jazz musicians as well as Jazz lovers came from as far as Ft. Lauderdale over an hour’s drive, each weekend, to hear FULLER sing and to sit in.
FULLER gigged briefly in the Mirage Casino in Las Vegas before marrying, moving back to Florida and producing and hosting the most popular radio show in Central Florida. After divorcing in 2005 FULLER did jail time and began to roam the country doing menial jobs such as working in a chicken plant in Oklahoma. In addition to becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol, somehow, amazingly FULLER was able during this period to complete 2 years of law school.
FULLER now return’s to the Jazz scene with no regular gig but performs at a local venue in a small town called DeQueen, AR. When asked why he has come back to Jazz, FULLER replied, “Out of all musical genres Jazz captures and conveys my living experience best.” And FULLER MOONDANCE is indeed one of the best at conveying America’s only original art form: Jazz.
